Plans for Rest of School Year, Summer and Next School Year

Long Beach Unified School District

View in Khmer

The Long Beach Unified School District continues to partner with the Los Angeles County Office of Education, the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, and other regional and state agencies to protect the health and safety of students, their families and school employees during the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.

Graduations, and Closing the School Year

Because health officials continue to advise against large, in-person gatherings, unfortunately schools cannot offer traditional graduation or K-8 promotional ceremonies. However, the school district is working diligently to provide a memorable, virtual graduation celebration. Additional information on virtual graduation and other close-of-school processes will be coming soon to families and school staff.

Summer School and Other Summer Activities

During the summer months, the school district will provide very few in-person activities, again based upon the advice of our partnering agencies. These activities will be restricted to essential worker childcare, a small preschool program and some limited intervention opportunities for students who need extra help. A reminder regarding current options for childcare: the nonprofit Pacific Gateway Workforce Partnership has launched WorkLB, a free electronic platform that helps to connect hourly child care providers with members of the public who suddenly need quality childcare. For more information, call (562) 570-4249.

During the summer, we will not be able to allow for sporting activities or any large student or staff gatherings until further notice. The school district will offer online summer school for grades 9 to 12 starting after the close of the traditional school year and is working to add additional online intervention options. Additional information will be forthcoming.

Start of 2020-21 School Year

The calendar for the 2020-21 school year begins on Sept. 1 and ends on June 16, 2021. 菠菜网lol正规平台 continues to plan for the new school year, which will include a range of options for students. The planned start date remains the same, but the new school year will not be “business as usual,” requiring the school district to explore a variety of adjustments. In the next several weeks, families will receive a link to a survey that will be used to gather thoughts on the current home learning program and to help with planning for the fall semester.
