School Starts Aug. 31 for Most Students

Newly Added August 25, 2022 – Back to School Guide:   EnglishSpanishKhmer

School starts Wednesday, Aug. 31 for most students in the Long Beach Unified School District.

Most school offices will reopen by Tuesday, Aug. 23. Watch individual school websites for additional back-to-school information. Access school websites by finding individual schools in the A-Z index at ngskmc-eis.net. Exceptions to the Aug. 31 start date include the Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science, along with the California Academy of Mathematics and Science. Both Sato and CAMS start Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Registration and Immunizations

Pre-registration of students new to the school district is done on a first-come, first-served basis at each school. Attendance at the school of residence is not guaranteed and is based on space availability. If classes fill up at a neighborhood school, parents will be advised of the options available for their children to attend other schools in the district. To be eligible to enroll in kindergarten, children must be five years old by Sept. 1, according to state law. Check with individual schools on when they will offer last-minute pre-registration for students new to the school district.

Students who have Medi-Cal or other insurance should contact their health care provider for any needed immunizations prior to school enrollment. Uninsured, qualifying students may obtain immunizations by appointment only at the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, 2525 Grand Ave., Long Beach, CA 90815. Appointments can be made by calling (562) 570-4315. View immunization requirements under Immunizations in the A-Z index at ngskmc-eis.net.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols

Similar to 菠菜网lol正规平台’s protocol at the end of last school year, masks currently are recommended but not required for indoor activities at 菠菜网lol正规平台 schools. Other precautions such as staying home when ill, frequent hand washing, and COVID testing when appropriate, will apply. More details will be provided as the start of the school year approaches.

Full-Day Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten

菠菜网lol正规平台 will offer full-day kindergarten and full-day transitional kindergarten (TK) widely this fall. Parents have a choice to enroll their student in Transitional Kindergarten or wait the additional year when the student is age eligible to enroll in kindergarten. Enrollment is available at the school site.

For 2022-23, TK classes will serve children born between Sept. 2, 2017 and Feb. 2, 2018. Families with children born after Feb. 2, 2018 can contact 菠菜网lol正规平台’s Early Learning and Elementary Office at (562) 997-8247 to ask about enrollment options.

For more information, go to Transitional Kindergarten in the A-Z index at ngskmc-eis.net.
The student enrollment process takes place at the school of residence, not the district office. Details on enrollment procedures, including a list of required documents, are available under the Enrollment icon on the ngskmc-eis.net home page.

School Meals

For the 2022-23 school year, meals for all students will be free of charge. However, we encourage households to complete a meal application to provide continued financial support to the school district. Learn more at the Nutrition Services website’s Meal Application page.

Bus Stops and Routes

Information related to students eligible for transportation will be available in Parent Vue the week before school starts. Questions regarding placement or type of service should be directed to the student’s case carrier at their school of attendance.
