A Note About Online Learning and Privacy

Student working on laptop

View in Khmer

To ensure that online classroom group activities, or synchronous instruction, contributes to student achievement and learning, the school district has provided teachers with a digital tool called Blocksi.

Blocksi is a Chrome browser management application that allows teachers to view the Chrome browser of students when they are logged in with their district emails. There is no invasion of privacy, but this new tool will support distance learning by allowing teachers to:

  • Share websites and other online resources with students
  • Monitor student progress
  • Help students complete digital work
  • Support students who are struggling
  • Focus students on the required content of the class
  • Provide individualized feedback

Blocksi meets the California Student Data Privacy Agreement. For teachers to use Blocksi, students need to be logged into a district Chromebook with their student ID and password or to a personal Chromebook/laptop with their district email (StudentID@student.ngskmc-eis.net). Blocksi does not allow access to students’ personal browsers, applications or desktops. Blocksi can be utilized at the teacher’s discretion and only during the instructional day.
